Writing and the LearningSuccess™ Laws
by LearningSuccess™ Coaches Victoria Kindle Hodson & Mariaemma Willis

When you think of writing or teaching your child to write, do you go into panic mode?
   • Are you afraid your child will never learn to write?
   • Are you worried because your child doesn’t seem to be improving?
   • Are you frustrated because nothing seems to be working?
   • Are you overwhelmed by all the writing programs out there?
   • Are you upset about all the money you’ve spent on curriculum or tutoring that hasn’t worked?
   • Are you confused by all the different approaches to writing?
   • Are you ready to give up because your child hates writing so much it always turns into a battle?
   • Are you feeling distressed because writing is not YOUR strength either?

Did you know that...
   • writing can be easy?
   • outlines are not necessary?
   • you can learn to write without writing?

Would you like a new way to write...with
no stress...no pressure...no anxiety?

Why does writing seem to be such a difficult skill to develop and why do so many people dislike it or even fear it? To answer this question we need to review the LearningSuccess™ Laws.

What are LearningSuccess Laws? They are principles that we have come to believe are essential for learning success, life success, and all other aspects of success. They are short and simple:
   • Learning doesn’t have to hurt!
   • Success leads to more success!
   • Coaching brings out the Star!

Writing is so often a “problem” because the student
   1. perceives it as a painful process
   2. does not see success or improvement
   3. is not coached to develop writing skills

What is needed is the application of a very powerful LearningSuccess concept: the 4-Period Lesson™.
This concept explains how any new thing is learned.
The learning process goes through 4 periods: Introduction, Recognition, Recall, and Fluency.

The reason so many students do not get to see their Stars shine in writing is because textbooks and teaching approaches completely skip Periods 1 and 2 and jump to Period 3! Students are not given the opportunity to go through Periods 1 and 2 in a safe, step-by-step learning situation.

Writing is a developmental skill. It is not like a subject such as history that is based on names, dates, events, and facts. There is a whole foundation that needs to be laid before we ask students to write sentences and paragraphs, let alone a research report!

This foundation includes developing observation, brainstorming, and organization skills. Period 1 and 2 processing
occurs the whole time these skills are being learned, resulting in the following:

ALL students acquire skills that allow their Stars to shine in the area of writing! Note: This does not mean every single student will become a great writer or even really, really enjoy writing. What it does mean is that every single student will have the ability to pass any standardized writing test that assesses paragraph order, organization of ideas, and topic development.

How would you like a writing course that features:
   1. the missing piece that is not found in any writing program - the foundation
   2. an easy way to learn the 3 skills that are necessary for writing but are never taught
   3. a format that is geared to each student's pace and readiness
   4. strategies for all learning styles
   5. options for students who refuse to write

We have seen magical things happen when kids who don't like to write, are afraid to write, or don't know how to write are given a program that works...

Our LearningSuccess Writing Program is a no-stress approach. Writing becomes easy and fun, outlines are out, and for 18 weeks or more the student doesn't even write!

Here's what kids and parents are saying:
   • "I've always hated to write. Now I get it - writing is easy now. I love this program." 12th Grade Student
   • "I wish I could have learned this when I was in school. It sure would have made high school and college easier." Parent
   • "Well, I finally understand how to do a book report." Parent
   • "I love this, I can do this!" Elementary Student
   • "If you are homeschooling, you will love this step-by-step, week-by-week, day-by-day guide." Homeschool Mom
   • "I could never get my thoughts out to write a paper. Now it's easy!" High School Student

Remember: Writing is so hard for so many because no one ever really teaches people to write - step-by-step, from the beginning. To teach writing, you can't start with actual writing! There is a lot of other easy, fun stuff that needs to be learned before that pencil ever hits the paper.
